Fr. Miguel Angel Fuentes, a priest of the Institute of the Incarnate Word (IVE), in his new book “Salvar El Matrimonio o Hundri La Civilizacion”, written as a contribution for the synod of the family of 2015, approaches the discussions about the matrimony that have arisen from the declarations of Cardinal Walter Kasper during the Consistory of the Cardinals last February 2014. The book also analyzes the two synodal relations and the different pastoral and doctrinal proposals. In the last paragraph of the presentation the author says:
“The battle in which we are embarked has a transcendence that, unfortunately, very few people can understand—I will speak on this in the last chapter.. This was well pointed out by Cardinal Ratzinger when he wrote: ‘The matrimony and the family have a decisive importance for the positive development of the Church and of the society. The times when the situation of the matrimony and of the family flourishes are times of welfare for the same humanity. If the matrimony and the family goes through a crisis this would bring great consequences for the spouses and for their children, for the State and for the Church’. Pope Francis has also said that the family is ‘a true school of humanity in saving societies from barbarity’. Because of this, I decided, from the very beginning of the pre-synodal discussions, to put all my effort—until the Synod of 2015—for the study of this debate. The pages that follow were precisely born as a fruit of the Refresher Courses on Theology for priests that I prepared for this year 2015 in several places (Argentina, Peru, and USA)” For more information, pleae visit Familiaris Consortio (in Spanish only)
