By the grace of God, here at the Our Lady of Sheshan Seminary in the Philippines, we celebrated our Cultural Week from August 1st to August 6th with different activities this year. On the first day, Rev. Fr. Diego Ibarra, IVE, kicked off the Cultural Week festivities with an insightful presentation entitled “The Vedas,” focusing on the topic of the semina verbi contained in the ancient Indian culture. The next day, we held our Convivium, which had a theme revolving around the “1st Council of Nicaea” in celebration of its 1700th anniversary. Our seminarian contributors presented expositions on different aspects of this Council, ranging from its History, Sacred Art, and Sacred Music. There were even some of our brothers who presented their own original works of literature and art in honour of the First Nicaean Council. On August 3rd, which was a Sunday, our community as a whole made a cultural excursion to the capital city to visit the National Museum of the Philippines, where we encountered the great artworks of many famous national artists. While in the city, we also took the opportunity to visit the Manila Cathedral and offer a song, Salve Regina, for Our Blessed Mother. On the 4th of August, we had a Melodium on sacred music wherein Rev. Fr. Federico Jaramillo, IVE, made an exposition on the Missa Solemnis in D major, Op. 123 composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. On the penultimate evening of our Cultural Week, we had a special First Nicaean Council themed Polyglosis during which the Nicaean Creed, which is the final profession of faith in the Council of 325 AD, was presented in 18 different languages by our seminarians, a father, and a novice. Last but certainly not least, we concluded our Cultural Week on August 6th with the celebration of the Feast of Transfiguration, our Charism Day. We had a Holy Mass concelebrated by many of the priests in our community, followed by a cheerful lunch reception. Finally, we ended the feast in typical IVE fashion – with a festive fogón.
